Who we are

Lesson Takeaways is a student- and teacher-facing web app that turns messy class notes or audio into clean daily takeaways, mind maps, exports, and quizzes. It is operated by the Lesson Takeaways team (contact email above).

What we collect

• Account data — email, optional name, password hash (we never store plain passwords), and if you use Google sign-in, your Google account id and basic profile (email/name).
• Content you submit — pasted notes, live captions text, uploaded or recorded audio, course/topic context, edits, quizzes, and generated takeaways/mind maps you save in your library.
• Usage & billing — plan, free-tier meters (audio seconds, note conversions), and Stripe customer/subscription ids if you upgrade. Card details are handled by Stripe, not stored on our servers.
• Technical data — basic server logs (IP, timestamps, URLs) needed to run and secure the service; session cookies to keep you signed in.
• Support messages — name, email, and message if you use the contact form.

How we use your data

• Provide the product (transcribe audio, polish notes with AI, save your library, exports, quiz).
• Enforce free/paid limits and process subscriptions via Stripe.
• Respond to support requests and improve reliability/security.
• We do not sell your personal data or class content to advertisers.

AI and third-party processors

To generate takeaways and quizzes we send the text you submit (and related course context) to Anthropic (Claude). Optional cloud audio transcription uses OpenAI (Whisper). Live browser captions stay in your browser until you choose to turn them into notes. Payments use Stripe. Sign-in may use Google. Hosting is on cloud infrastructure (currently Railway). Those providers process data under their own terms and security controls, only as needed to provide Lesson Takeaways.

Cookies

We use essential cookies for login sessions and admin access. We do not use advertising trackers.

Retention

Account and library data are kept while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated takeaways by contacting us. Backups and logs may persist for a limited time for security and recovery. Stripe retains payment records as required for billing/tax.

Your choices

• Access or correct account details by logging in or contacting us.
• Request deletion of your account and stored takeaways.
• Cancel a paid plan anytime via Manage / cancel subscription on Pricing (Stripe Customer Portal).
• Avoid cloud audio by using paste notes or live captions only.

Children / schools

The product is aimed at students and teachers — any course, worldwide. If you are under the age where you can consent in your region, use the service only with a parent/guardian or school’s permission. Schools remain responsible for their own student-data policies.

Security

We use HTTPS, hashed passwords, and keep API keys on the server only. No method is 100% secure; please use a strong unique password.

Changes

We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change. Continued use after updates means you accept the revised policy.
